“Going green” seems to be the hippest buzz phrase of the last few years. Everyone wants to “go green” and support “green” products and businesses. If you ask anyone, they will say “Oh! I’m green!” but just HOW green are you??
I was doing a blog hop yesterday and came across Sprouts Green Family. She’s great so go check her out. She had a link to Practically Green. This is a site that allows you to take a quiz and then they tell you how green you are! After you get the good (or bad) news they provide you with a list of things you can complete to help you move up the ladder. Along the way you collect badges and become more green! It’s fun, try it!
I HAD to try it out! I went in thinking the same thing everyone else does…”I’m green”. Well, boy was I wrong! Also, I must add, be completely honest. As much as it hurts to say “naw, I don’t really care about grass-fed beef”, say it anyway!
So, here are my results…
OUCH!
I thought I would be higher up on the branch, ya know?! Now that I know how un-green I am, I can get started. I went through the list and checked off a couple of things I already do like bathe the kids together and turn off the lights when I leave a room. Then I went to the list of reccomendations and added things we were planning, like installing storm windows. There are things on the list that I would LOVE to do but not sure if hubby would go for it. For starters, a timer for the shower. Hubby has this really annoying habit of taking 50 minute showers. I would love to have a timer shut it off in 5 minutes! HA!
Here is my commitment to “going green”. Every week I am going to try to complete 3 items from my to-do list and report them here. I will monitor my climb up the tree and tell you the good, bad and ugly. If hubby has to take a 5 minute shower…it’s gonna get ugly! Come back every Thursday to get your green fix and hopefully get inspired!
I will also be sharing tips and tricks I find along the way. I invite you to share yours as well! We can learn from each other and then we can say “we’re green” and really mean it!
