Labor day weekend is upon us! Yesterday I gave you an idea of an easy holiday weekend menu so you won’t be stuck in the kitchen while the rest of the family relaxes. Today I’m going to give you the perfect, no fuss, no muss cocktail and dessert!
There is nothing I love more than dessert…except a good cocktail! Our family likes to drink when holidays roll around! My husband is a little heavy handed with the liquor so I usually get stuck in the kitchen playing bartender. It’s fun but I never get to enjoy my drink! For this Labor Day weekend I’m going to share my recipe for a perfect summer cocktail that you can make by the pitcher!
When I first learned of this recipe, I could never get it right. My pitcher was always a different size than the one they were talking about. I also wanted it to be easy enough for me to remember…especially after too many drinks! So here it is:
How To Make A John Daly
- Lemonade
- Iced Tea (sweetened to your preference)
- Plain Vodka
- Strawberries
- Lemon Slices
- Ice
Get any size pitcher and fill the bottom with a good amount of ice. Next you will add your liquid. The ratio is 2-2-1. 2 cups of lemonade, 2 cups of tea, 1 cup of vodka. Keep alternating until your pitcher is full. Drop in your strawberries and lemon slices! Enjoy!
Now that you are feeling all tingly from the cocktail, it’s time for dessert! Dessert is my favorite meal to cook and I almost never mind slaving away on it BUT this year we are keeping things delicious and easy. So, without further ado…My go-to BBQ dessert recipe!
Strawberry Heaven
- 1 baked Angel Food Cake (you can buy one at the store to save time and energy)
- 2 packages of cream cheese
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 small container of Whipped topping
- at least a quart of strawberries
First beat the cream cheese and sugar together until it’s fluffy. Then fold in the whipped topping.
You can put this together in what ever dish you like because you are going to layer it up the same. First layer is the crumbled angel food cake. Next, layer in the sweet cream cheese mixture. Cover that with a layer of sliced strawberries. Repeat if necessary and chill until ready to serve!
There you have it! Easy recipes that can be whipped together in a snap. Find yourself a comfy chair this weekend, pour a drink and dig in!
Happy Labor Day!
