Here’s Your Sign!

We moved to our current city a year ago. It is a beautiful city with nice quiet neighborhoods. The city works hard to keep everything looking beautiful. One of the cities “rules” is that businesses cannot display corporate signs towards the street or on the building. The buildings in every shopping center have the same font, in the same color no matter how big the business is. All of this makes for some pretty shopping centers. There are no giant signs with obnoxious colors. Everything is peaceful and non threatening…just the way us middle class suburbanites like it…right?…right?!

There is one teensy tiny problem with this system however; you can’t find ANYTHING! I am forced to rely on my phones GPS and sometimes she doesn’t know her behind from a hole in the ground! The light brown lettering all blends together. I feel like I am walking down one of those long corridors in a medical building staring at one bronze plaque after another.

I find myself identifying shopping centers by their foliage or the presence of a particular gas station. “The one I am looking for has a white barked birch on the corner….THERE! Turn right now!” If you were ever wondering why people drive so badly in Florida, it’s not their lack of ability…it’s the lack of signage in their neighborhood!

That seems silly to me. :) The things we do for beauty, I guess, lol

Considering how tacky some signs are, I wouldn’t mind a consistent look.

LOL. Even when there are signs I get lost!

That’s challenging! If I lived there, by the time that I’ve memorized the establishments and their exact locations, my sense of direction would have reached its maximum potential. LOL.
