The Choice…Are You Kidding Me FOX?

Last week Mr. M2C and I were channel surfing, which we do now that we don’t have satellite. Anyway, we were channel surfing and came across the first episode of a new show called “The Choice“. We decided to watch even though I was already annoyed by their “The Voice” rip-off.

Let me give you some set-up…There are 4 “celebrity” guys and I want to be clear that I use the word “celebrity” VERY loosely! They sit in chairs that spin so they start with their backs to the stage. The idea is that a girl will walk on stage and she then has 30 seconds to convince these guys to pick her. If more than one of them turns their chair around then they try to convince her to join their “team”. If no one turns around then she takes a humiliating walk of shame…exit stage right.

It took me all of 2 minutes to feel the pull of the women’s movement backsliding through time. What on Earth would compel these very beautiful women to stand on a stage like a piece of meat rambling through every cliche they can think of that would catch a mans attention. “I like suckers, jumping up and down AND I just installed a stripper pole in my bedroom!”

All the while these “celebrity” men laugh and joke with each other. They aren’t really listening, they just wheel and deal these girls. Once they have a team of 3 girls they move on to a speed Q&A round only to make these girls look even more ridiculous. That round ends with a public cut of one girl. Round 3 brings the final 2 girls on stage for one last “tough” question like “What is the most romantic date you have ever planned for a man?” I would ask “What’s the last romantic thing a man did for ME?!”

At the end, the “celebrity” comes on stage to stand between the two women and make his “Choice”. It was the worst display of macho BS I have seen in a long while.

What are we teaching our girls…and what are we teaching our boys?! That’s it’s ok to let a girl beg for your affection and when you don’t want her anymore just publicly humiliate her,  pick someone else and move on?! This is not a message I want either of my kids to grow up hearing.

Get some self respect ladies!! Fox…this is a new low, even for you!
